I have decided to do a list of the top 10 weapons that I think are the best to use in COD: WAW Zombie mode. This list is not official, merely my opinion, so do not take it as cast in stone. You may prefer another weapon entirely. I have also given some useful tactics I have picked up. Give them a try and see what you think. Any comments would be appreciated. Edit: A Poll has been added now as nobody seems to post on this forum any more.
1. Ray Gun 9.5/10
Pro's: Very powerful weapon. One hit kill in upper chest and head for the majority of levels. One hit kill anywhere until around level 14/15. Semi automatic, with a large capacity, so will fire as fast as you can move your finger. Can be used if you get knocked into Second chance, enabling you to effectively cover your friends whilst they revive you. Count yourself very lucky if the weapon chest gives you this.
Con's: Slow reload time can leave you vulnerable in later levels. A rare find from the weapons box, especially in the early levels.
2. Magnum 9/10
Pro's: Powerful handgun. One shot kill in head and chest for most of the levels. One shot kill anywhere for majority of early levels. Deep impact so can wound multiple zombies at once. Can be used if you get knocked into Second chance, enabling you to effectively cover your friends whilst they revive you.
Con's: Small capacity and long reload time that can leave you vulnerable to attack. Rate of fire is sometimes stuttery, so cannot use "Spray and pray" tactics in an emergency.
3. Browning HMG 8.5/10
Pro's: King of "Spray and pray." Great capacity and fantastic rate of fire allows you to pump the rounds down range in an emergency. Good power and deep impact.
Con's: Very long reload time. Impairs movement, so cannot run away very quickly. Not very accurate in free aim, but better using iron sights.
4. Double barrelled/ sawn off shotguns. 8/10
Pro's: Powerful weapon that causes large amount of damage. Can hit multiple zombies at once due to bullet fragmentation. Double barrelled can be purchased off the wall in the "Help" room, so dont have to use random box.
Con's: Small capacity (only 2 shots) and slow reload time can leave you vulnerable to attack.
5. MG42 7.75/10
Pro's: Good for the "Spray and pray" tactic. Decent power and deep impact. Huge capacity. Slightly more accurate in free aim than the Browning HMG but less so using the iron sights.
Con's: Long, slow reload time. Not as powerful as Browining HMG. Impairs movement.
6. Trench Gun 7.5/10
Pro's: Powerful shots, which can harm multiple zombies at once. Larger capacity than other shotguns so you can keep firing for much longer.
Con's: Slow reload time leaves you vulnerable. Not as powerful than other shotguns.
7. FG42 7.3/10
Pro's: Awesome rate of fire. Accurate using free aim at short range and good accuracy using iron sights. Relatively fast reload time leaves you vulnerable for less time. Does not impare movement as much as other machine guns.
Con's: Small magazine that is eaten rapidly by rate of fire. Not as powerful as other machine guns. You run out of ammo very quickly with this
=8. MP40. 7.1/10
Pro's: Good power. A great gun for the early levels. Decent rate of fire with relatively fast reload time keeps you in the fight.
Con's: Lacks the stopping power needed for the later levels. Accuracy isnt great in free aim. Swap this weapon for someting with more power at level 10/11.
=8. BAR 7.1/10
Pro's: High power with good accuracy down iron sights and decent accuracy in free aim. Another good early weapon. Automatic fire. Can be purchased off the wall upstairs, but by that point you should have moved on to better weapons.
Con's: Slow rate of fire. Poor if the enemy are charging at you as rate of fire is too slow. By the time you can buy this off the upstairs wall you should have moved on to better weapons.
10. Thompson 7/10
Pro's: Good rate of fire, useful for "Spray and pray" in the early levels. Can be purchased fairly cheaply from "Help" room wall. Good accuracy. Great choice for the early levels as it provides a cheap automatic fire weapon.
Con's: Lacks stopping power in later levels. You will be using an entire magazine to drop 1/2 zombies after level 11/12 if you are lucky. Rate of fire chews through small magazine in double quick time. Suffers from the same problems as the Scorpian suffered from in COD4. Use this until you can afford either the double barrelled shotgun or a few lucky dips in the weapons chest.
Special mention: Flamethrower
A flamethrower is a mixed blessing, as whilst it can harm many enemies at once and never runs out of ammo, merely overheats, you can sometimes harm your own teamates with the flames as occasionally you find annoying little glitches where flames always hang around and burn anybody who walks past. It also does not kill the zombies immediately just causes them to run around flaming for a little while. So do not think a flamethrower is the answer to all of your problems. I prefer a Ray Gun or Magnum any day.
Tactics: With four people, do not open the "help" room door until level 6 at the earliest. The later you can hold on in the start room the better. 2 early tactics are to either buy the Kar immediatley or get a few pistol/grenade kills and buy the M1 Carbine. Divide the windows up evenly and stick to your post unless someone calls for help and then only go if your window is clear. Do not open the upstairs yet under any circumstances.
There are a number of pick ups that are very useful. There are Double points, Max ammo, and Instant kill, which are all fairly self explanatory. Instant kill is especially useful in the later levels as even a simple knife, which takes 4 sometimes even 5 stabs to kill a zombie will kill them in one hit. Use you weakest weapon when you have this powerup or just use the knife to save ammo. There is also a bomb pick up that causes all nearby zombies to spontaneously combust, killing them instantly. This is useful when you are under pressure. However, all of these are random so it is just luck when or if you get them
At around level 6-8 open the "Help" room, as you will begin to need the better weapons it has to offer. Either buy the Thompson or Double Barrelled, or try your luck with the random box. Swap any new weapons for the worst weapon you are currently holding. Leave one guy to defend the help room and have the other 3 guys in the main room. One guy has the window nearest the "Help" room, one has the two middle windows (the one at the front and one at the back) and the last person has the far two.
If there is a large break in all pull back to the "Help" room. Have two people watch the door into the "Help" room and have the other 2 maintain the "Help" room barriers. The people that are defending the door should have a shotgun of some description or a powerful machine gun. Of course, a Ray Gun/ Magnum would do nicely as well!
After the end of each level have everyone run around and repair the barriers. Do this before buying any new weapons, as they will not be much use if you are killed by a zombie behind you whilst you are watching the random box. You only have a 20secs gap between levels, so be as quick as you can. Sometimes, if you are lucky you can blow the legs off the last zombie, causing him to crawl around very slowly. Use this time to repair all the barriers before killing him, although dont take too long as he will die eventually
When you begin to struggle to hold the zombies off open the upstairs. Open them from the "help" room, not from the starting room. If you open the upstairs from the "help" room you will create a bottle neck where all zombies coming upstairs will have to pass through. It is also a shorter trip to the random weapons box. The upstairs allows you to buy the BAR, a decent sniper rifle from a cabinet and some grenades, as well as a shotgun. If you are being overwhelmed pull back to the grenade spawn point by the other set of stairs, which should remain blocked. Alll the zombies will now attack from one direction only, allowing you to concentrate your fire in one direction and keep your backs protected at the same time. Use grnades to slow the zombies down. However, if you blow their legs off, they will still crawl towards you! Make sure you take these guys down, as they can be difficult to spot. Zombies will still also rush at you, even without heads. Just keep firing to bring them down.
At this point you wont have enough time to repair all the barries in between levels and still buy all the weapons you need. When this happens, concentrate on the upstairs barriers, then the "Help" room barriers then retreat back upstairs. This helps spread out the zombies arriving and prevents a massive glut of them all at once.
That is all the knowledge I have at the moment. I hope you find all of that useful, as it was very time consuming to write. I wish you good luck on zombie mode, as your success may be down to what weapon the fickle random box gives you and your team.......
Edit: i have added a few extra bits and pieces to the guide going on little bits i have picked up recently from friends.
